Researcher Co-Leads Executive Initiative
The White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has formed an interagency subcommittee to support the Materials Genome Initiative for Global Competitiveness, part of the administration's plan to speed the discovery and development of new materials.
Dr. Julie Christodoulou, director of ONR's Naval Materials Division, along with co-leads from the Air Force Research Laboratory and the National Science Foundation, will guide the initiative comprised of partners from multiple agencies.

Solid-State Industry Day Announced
At left, an artist's conceptual illustration of a solid-state laser. ONR is looking to industry to develop a solid-state laser weapon prototype that will demonstrate multi-mission capabilities aboard Navy ships.
An industry day event will be held May 16 at the Washington Navy Yard auditorium. A broad agency announcement is expected for release soon after the event to solicit proposals and bids.
